Follow the Money – Chapter Two
Freedom Caucus funding comes from out of state
The cost for election campaigns for the statehouse has doubled in the last decade. Much of the money behind the Freedom Caucus comes from outside Wyoming. For example, Make Liberty Win is a Virginia-based PAC funded by Texas donors. It spent $370,000 in Wyoming’s last election, including $7,500 supporting Rachel Rodriguez-Williams (Freedom Caucus Chair) and $9,200 opposing Albert Sommers (Freedom Caucus ghost buster).

Political races in Wyoming have become markedly more expensive since 2010:
The average candidate spending for a statehouse seat was $5,047 in 2010 and $7,347 for a State Senate seat. Both figures more than doubled by 2022 to $12,791 for Wyoming House of Representative races and $17,745 for Wyoming Senate races. The averages of the most expensive races have more than doubled in the same time period for the statehouse and more than tripled for the senate.
