Fact Check: What the Freedom Caucus stand for, by their own words and deeds

Separating rhetoric from reality on public lands policy

A recent statement claimed that Freedom Caucus positions on federal lands would harm Wyoming’s economy. We examined the evidence.

Jeremy Haroldson, HD 4, Laramie & Platte County

Founding member and Vice Chairman of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus

Doesn’t believe in feeding kids

Voted against SUN Bucks, which would have fed 32,000 kids during the summer when school is out, saying it would “have chilling effect on local communities.”

Doesn’t believe in separation of church and state

Believes separation of church and state only flows one way. “It is not the government’s role or job to dictate to the church its function or role, but it is the role of the church to dictate to the government its function and role,” Haroldson said.

“It’s not in the Constitution,” he said. “It’s not a constitutional principle. It’s not even actually a founding document principle. [The framers] had an idea that there should be a separation of state and church, but not church and state.”

The State of Wyoming employs about 15,000 people, many of whom reside in Laramie County.  Yet Freedom Caucus members from Laramie County voted against raising State employee pay to 2024 levels.

Who do these Representatives actually represent?

(The pay raises were approved in the end, thanks to the Senate, but no thanks to the Freedom Caucus)
